Employment Information

The VRF/VRV Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) or Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) HVAC systems. These systems are commonly used in commercial and high-end residential applications due to their energy efficiency and zoning capabilities. The technician should have deep knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and control technologies associated with VRF/VRV systems, including brands like Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, LG, Samsung, or Panasonic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install VRF/VRV systems according to design drawings, technical specifications, and local codes.
  • Conduct commissioning and start-up of newly installed systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on VRF/VRV systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults in HVAC systems.
  • Read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
  • Maintain accurate service records, reports, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
  • Interface with clients to explain issues, repairs, and system performance.
  • Train junior technicians or apprentices as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or technical certificate in HVAC or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience working with VRF/VRV systems.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC refrigeration and electrical systems.
  • EPA Universal Certification (in the U.S.) or equivalent local certifications.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools, gauges, and instruments.
  • Familiarity with major VRF brands (e.g., Daikin, LG, Mitsubishi Electric).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (if travel is required).
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) certified training on VRF/VRV systems.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) integration.
  • Ability to read AutoCAD drawings and construction blueprints.
  • Knowledge of control wiring and system programming.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is typically performed at client job sites (indoor/outdoor).
  • May require lifting heavy equipment and working at heights or in tight spaces.
  • Travel to different sites may be required.
  • Occasional on-call duty or extended hours depending on project needs.
