Swimming Pool / Water Maintainer
Summary:
A Swimming Pool/Water Maintainer is responsible for the regular upkeep, cleaning, and chemical balancing of swimming pools and water systems to ensure a clean, safe, and pleasant environment for users. This role involves a combination of technical knowledge, routine inspections, troubleshooting, and hands-on maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine cleaning of swimming pools including vacuuming, skimming, brushing walls, and emptying baskets.
- Monitor and adjust chemical levels (chlorine, pH, alkalinity, etc.) to maintain water quality and safety in accordance with local health and safety standards.
- Inspect pool equipment such as pumps, filters, heaters, and plumbing systems for proper operation.
- Conduct water testing and keep accurate records of chemical levels and maintenance activities.
- Backwash filters and clean cartridges or sand filters regularly.
- Identify and troubleshoot water circulation or equipment problems and report or perform necessary repairs.
- Maintain pool decks and surrounding areas to ensure they are clean, safe, and well-kept.
- Winterize and reopen pools as needed during seasonal changes.
- Handle minor plumbing and electrical maintenance related to pool systems.
- Respond to customer or facility manager inquiries and provide excellent service.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in pool maintenance is a plus.
- Proven experience in pool or water maintenance (residential or commercial).
- Knowledge of pool chemicals and their safe handling and application.
- Familiarity with mechanical and electrical pool systems.
- Good physical condition and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Certification in pool maintenance (e.g., Certified Pool Operator - CPO) is highly desirable.
Work Environment:
Work is primarily outdoors or in pool mechanical rooms. The role may require early mornings, weekends, or emergency call-outs depending on the facility's needs.
