 Structural Welder

Job Summary:

A Structural Welder is responsible for cutting, fitting, and welding metal components to build structural steel frameworks for buildings, bridges, ships, and other large-scale infrastructure. This role requires precision, a deep understanding of welding techniques, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding specifications
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure metal parts and structures using tools such as levels, rulers, and clamps
  • Select appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Perform welding operations using various techniques such as MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
  • Inspect completed welds and structures to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications
  • Grind, cut, or clean welds and components as needed to achieve desired finish and fit
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Maintain welding equipment and tools, reporting any damage or issues
  • Collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and other team members to ensure proper assembly and installation
  • Work at heights or in confined spaces as required by the project

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED (technical training or welding certifications preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience in structural welding or related field
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
  • Strong understanding of welding symbols, methods, and safety protocols
  • Certified Welder (AWS or equivalent) is a plus
  • Physical strength and stamina to handle heavy materials and work in demanding environments

Skills:

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with metal fabrication and construction processes
  • Basic math skills for measurement and layout
