Structural Welder
Job Summary:
A Structural Welder is responsible for cutting, fitting, and welding metal components to build structural steel frameworks for buildings, bridges, ships, and other large-scale infrastructure. This role requires precision, a deep understanding of welding techniques, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding specifications
- Lay out, position, align, and secure metal parts and structures using tools such as levels, rulers, and clamps
- Select appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Perform welding operations using various techniques such as MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
- Inspect completed welds and structures to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications
- Grind, cut, or clean welds and components as needed to achieve desired finish and fit
- Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment)
- Maintain welding equipment and tools, reporting any damage or issues
- Collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and other team members to ensure proper assembly and installation
- Work at heights or in confined spaces as required by the project
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (technical training or welding certifications preferred)
- 2+ years of experience in structural welding or related field
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
- Strong understanding of welding symbols, methods, and safety protocols
- Certified Welder (AWS or equivalent) is a plus
- Physical strength and stamina to handle heavy materials and work in demanding environments
