Mobile Crane Operation Description
A mobile crane operator is responsible for operating a mobile crane to lift, move, position, and place materials and equipment at construction, industrial, or logistics sites. This role involves the safe and efficient control of the crane in compliance with safety regulations, load charts, and site requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate various types of mobile cranes (e.g., truck-mounted, all-terrain, rough terrain) to lift and transport heavy loads.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections to ensure crane functionality, safety features, and load capacities are within required standards.
- Interpret load charts, rigging plans, and lift plans to determine proper load handling.
- Communicate with signal persons, riggers, and site supervisors to execute lifts safely.
- Monitor crane performance and make adjustments for wind, ground conditions, and swing radius.
- Maintain equipment by performing basic repairs and routine servicing.
- Record operational and maintenance logs as required by company and regulatory bodies.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Certified crane operator (e.g., NCCCO, CPCS, or local equivalent).
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documents and lift plans.
- Strong understanding of rigging, hoisting, and crane dynamics.
- Excellent coordination, judgment, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work at heights and in varying site conditions.
Work Conditions:
- Outdoor construction or industrial environments.
- Exposure to noise, heavy equipment, and variable weather.
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Physical stamina and strength are necessary for climbing and manual tasks.
