Job Summary:
An OT Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgery. They assist surgical teams by preparing the operating room, sterilizing equipment, and ensuring that all instruments and supplies are available and functioning. OT Nurses work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that surgical procedures are carried out smoothly and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
Preoperative Duties:
Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and equipment.
Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, and consent.
Assist in positioning and preparing the patient for surgery.
Ensure all necessary supplies and instruments are available and sterilized.
Intraoperative Duties:
Act as scrub nurse or circulating nurse during surgeries.
Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon in a sterile manner.
Monitor the patient’s vital signs and surgical environment.
Maintain aseptic technique to prevent infection.
Postoperative Duties:
Assist in transferring the patient to the recovery room.
Monitor patient condition and report any complications.
Document surgical procedures, equipment used, and nursing observations.
General Duties:
Maintain accurate patient records.
Follow hospital protocols and safety regulations.
Participate in surgical team briefings and debriefings.
Assist in inventory management and sterilization of surgical tools.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
Operating Theatre or perioperative nursing certification (preferred).
Strong understanding of surgical procedures and aseptic techniques.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
Attention to detail and precision.
Work Environment:
Hospital operating rooms, surgical centers, and outpatient clinics.
Shifts may include nights, weekends, and on-call hours.
Physically demanding; long hours standing, lifting patients/equipment.
