Employment Information

A Dental Nurse supports dentists in all aspects of patient care, from preparing equipment and ensuring infection control protocols to assisting during procedures. This role is essential in ensuring smooth and efficient dental operations, maintaining patient comfort and safety at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the dentist during a variety of dental procedures.
  • Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment according to infection control protocols.
  • Ensure the dental surgery is clean and well-stocked.
  • Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays).
  • Record patient medical history and dental charts accurately.
  • Provide patients with pre- and post-operative instructions.
  • Manage patient appointments, records, and payments as needed.
  • Support anxious patients and help them feel at ease before and during treatment.
  • Handle dental materials and mix them as required (e.g., impression materials, filling compounds).
  • Comply with health and safety regulations and dental practice guidelines.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing or equivalent.
    • GDC (General Dental Council) registration.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
    • Understanding of confidentiality and patient care.
  • Desirable:
    • CPR and first aid training.
    • Experience with dental software (e.g., SOE, Dentally).
    • Experience in specialist areas (e.g., orthodontics, oral surgery).
