Mechanical Fitter / Technician - Hydraulic
Job Summary:
The Mechanical Fitter / Technician specializing in hydraulics is responsible for the assembly, maintenance, repair, and testing of hydraulic systems and components in industrial, manufacturing, or mobile machinery environments. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude combined with expertise in hydraulic systems to ensure efficient and safe operation of equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble, install, and fit hydraulic components such as pumps, valves, cylinders, motors, and hoses.
- Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on hydraulic machinery and systems to minimize downtime.
- Diagnose faults in hydraulic systems using technical drawings, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
- Perform testing and calibration of hydraulic equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Dismantle and rebuild hydraulic components as needed.
- Interpret technical manuals, hydraulic circuit diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Work closely with engineers and other technicians to implement improvements and modifications.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts used.
- Follow all safety regulations and company policies related to hydraulic system handling.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized hydraulic tools proficiently.
- Assist in training junior technicians or apprentices as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or Technician, with specific experience in hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of hydraulic principles, components, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and hydraulic drawings.
- Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong mechanical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with safety standards and procedures related to hydraulics.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Relevant vocational qualifications or certifications in mechanical or hydraulic technology (preferred).
- Physical ability to handle heavy machinery and work in confined spaces.
Work Environment:
- Industrial or workshop settings.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
- May require lifting heavy components and working in various weather conditions (for mobile machinery).
