Mechanical Fitter/ Technician - Diesel

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Fitter / Diesel Technician to join our maintenance team. The role involves the servicing, repair, and overhaul of diesel engines and mechanical systems in vehicles, equipment, or plant machinery. This position requires strong technical knowledge of diesel systems, fault diagnosis skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect, service, repair, and maintain diesel engines and mechanical components.
• Diagnose faults and perform corrective maintenance on diesel engines, pumps, generators, and related systems.
• Dismantle and reassemble engines and associated mechanical parts.
• Use technical manuals, diagnostic tools, and test equipment to identify issues.
• Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance tasks as per company guidelines.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and report defects.
• Adhere to workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to improve workshop efficiency.
• Assist with commissioning and testing of machinery or equipment after repairs.

Requirements:

• Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or Diesel Mechanics (e.g., Cert III in Engineering or Diesel Fitting).
• Proven experience working with diesel engines (trucks, heavy equipment, generators, etc.).
• Sound knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and service manuals.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• A current driver’s license (HR or higher is an advantage).
• Forklift or other relevant machinery tickets (desirable).
• Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Desirable Skills:

• Welding and fabrication skills.
• Experience in mining, marine, or heavy industry environments.
• Familiarity with CMMS or maintenance scheduling software.
• Understanding of emissions systems and electronic engine controls.
