Lowbed Driver 

A Lowbed Driver is responsible for safely transporting oversized, heavy, or bulky loads using a specialized lowbed trailer. These drivers operate heavy trucks and trailers designed to carry large machinery, construction equipment, and other heavy cargo that cannot be transported on standard flatbed trucks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate lowbed trucks to transport heavy and oversized loads to various locations safely and on schedule.
  • Inspect the vehicle and trailer before and after trips to ensure they are in safe working condition.
  • Secure loads using chains, straps, and other tie-down equipment to prevent movement during transit.
  • Plan routes to accommodate oversized loads, including obtaining necessary permits and coordinating with authorities if required.
  • Comply with all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Communicate with dispatchers, clients, and other team members to report on delivery status and any issues.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance and report any mechanical problems.
  • Ensure proper documentation for cargo, including bills of lading and delivery receipts.

Qualifications:

  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), usually Class A.
  • Experience driving heavy trucks, preferably with lowbed or heavy haul trailers.
  • Knowledge of load securement techniques and safety protocols.
  • Good physical condition for handling cargo and equipment.
  • Ability to plan routes and comply with transportation regulations.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
