Job Summary:
The Lowbed Driver is responsible for safely operating a lowbed truck and trailer to transport heavy construction equipment, machinery, and oversized loads to and from project sites, warehouses, or other designated locations. This role requires excellent driving skills, attention to safety, and knowledge of load securing, road regulations, and heavy hauling practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate lowbed trucks to load, transport, and unload heavy equipment or oversized cargo.
- Inspect vehicles and trailers before and after trips, reporting any defects.
- Ensure loads are properly secured and comply with legal weight and size limits.
- Plan routes that comply with road and bridge regulations, including obtaining permits if needed.
- Coordinate with dispatch, site managers, or crane operators for safe delivery and offloading.
- Maintain accurate trip records, delivery logs, and fuel usage reports.
- Comply with company safety policies and government regulations (DOT, OSHA, etc.).
- Perform minor maintenance or assist in the upkeep of the truck and trailer.
Qualifications:
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (e.g., Class A).
- Proven experience as a lowbed or heavy haul truck driver.
- Knowledge of loading and securing heavy equipment.
- Clean driving record with a strong safety background.
- Ability to read maps and navigate efficiently.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks such as chaining and binding.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with hydraulic trailers and detachable goosenecks.
- Experience transporting construction, mining, or agricultural equipment.
- Knowledge of transportation laws and oversize/overweight permit procedures.
- Basic mechanical knowledge of trucks and trailers.
Work Environment:
- Extended travel and long hours may be required.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, construction sites, and hazardous materials.
