Instrument Electrician Job Description
An Instrument Electrician is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and electronic instrumentation systems used in industrial plants and manufacturing facilities. These systems include sensors, transmitters, controllers, and other devices essential for measuring and controlling variables such as temperature, pressure, flow, and level in various processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, test, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and control equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Diagnose and repair faults in instrumentation and control systems.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal functioning of instrumentation.
- Work closely with engineers and technicians to troubleshoot system issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Document maintenance activities and update equipment records.
- Use specialized tools and testing equipment to verify instrument accuracy and performance.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an Instrument Electrician or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Proficiency in using testing and calibration equipment.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
- Relevant certification or diploma in electrical or instrumentation technology preferred.
- Physical ability to work in industrial environments, sometimes at heights or in confined spaces.
