An HVAC Control Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing the control systems that regulate heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems. This includes working with direct digital control (DDC) systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), thermostats, and building automation systems (BAS) to ensure optimal energy efficiency and indoor environmental comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, program, and troubleshoot HVAC control systems, including DDC and BAS platforms.
- Calibrate and maintain HVAC sensors, controllers, actuators, and other system components.
- Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and control drawings and schematics.
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on HVAC control systems.
- Monitor and analyze system performance data to identify and resolve operational issues.
- Assist in commissioning of new HVAC control installations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and system performance logs.
- Collaborate with engineers, facility managers, and contractors to optimize system efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and applicable codes and regulations.
- Provide technical support and training to building operators or maintenance staff.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; associate degree or technical certification in HVAC, electronics, or building automation is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience with HVAC control systems, including installation, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Familiarity with HVAC control platforms (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Trane, Schneider Electric).
- Strong understanding of HVAC system operation, electronics, and low-voltage control wiring.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, control diagrams, and schematics.
- Knowledge of energy management and building automation principles.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in HVAC (EPA Section 608, NATE, etc.).
- Experience with networking and integration of control systems.
- Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, or LongWorks protocols.
