Generator Technician
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Generator Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair generator systems, including diesel and gas-powered generators. The ideal candidate should have strong mechanical and electrical expertise, with a commitment to safety and quality service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on standby and portable generators.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues and perform repairs.
- Install new generator systems and integrate them with building power systems.
- Conduct load tests, oil changes, coolant flushes, and battery inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of services, repairs, and parts used.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Provide emergency repair services during power outages or generator failure.
- Coordinate with other technicians, electricians, and contractors as needed.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and safe condition.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; technical training or certification in generator systems preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in generator maintenance and repair (Cummins, CAT, Kohler, etc.).
- Knowledge of diesel and gas engine systems, electrical circuitry, and control panels.
- Familiarity with automatic transfer switches (ATS) and load bank testing.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various job sites.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- OSHA or other safety certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work in various environmental conditions, including outdoor and emergency settings.
