Employment Information

An Electrical Draftsman creates accurate and detailed electrical schematics, layouts, and diagrams based on engineering specifications and project requirements. They work closely with engineers and project managers to ensure that electrical plans meet technical standards, safety codes, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare electrical drawings using CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
  • Create wiring diagrams, circuit layouts, panel schedules, and termination diagrams.
  • Interpret engineering sketches and specifications to produce technical drawings.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers and other project stakeholders to ensure designs are accurate and compliant.
  • Update and revise drawings based on project changes and feedback.
  • Maintain a library of standard drawings and ensure all documentation is up-to-date.
  • Ensure that all designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC).
  • Assist in preparing documentation for construction and installation phases.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and components.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and safety standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Work Environment:

  • Typically office-based, with possible site visits depending on the project.
  • May work in engineering firms, construction companies, manufacturing plants, or utility providers.
