Concrete Pump Operator – Job Description
A Concrete Pump Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining equipment used to transfer liquid concrete via a pump to the desired location on a construction site. They play a critical role in construction projects, ensuring efficient and safe placement of concrete.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate Concrete Pumping Equipment: Set up, operate, and control truck-mounted or trailer-mounted concrete pumps.
- Placement of Concrete: Safely maneuver the boom or hose to pour concrete accurately and efficiently.
- Site Preparation: Collaborate with the construction crew to prepare the work site, ensuring a safe and level area for pump setup.
- Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, clean, and perform minor repairs on pumping equipment to ensure proper function and longevity.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all company and regulatory safety standards and protocols on-site.
- Communication: Coordinate with the site foreman and other workers to ensure concrete is pumped where and when needed.
- Record Keeping: Maintain logs and records of work performed, equipment maintenance, and material usage.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience operating concrete pumps or other heavy equipment is often preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Good physical stamina and strength to handle hoses and work outdoors in varied weather.
- Knowledge of safety practices in construction environments.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans or layouts is an asset.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be required depending on the jurisdiction.
