Position Summary:
The Chiller Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of chiller systems and related HVAC equipment. This role ensures optimal performance and energy efficiency of chiller units, which may include centrifugal, screw, scroll, or absorption types. The technician must adhere to safety standards, manufacturer guidelines, and local codes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on air-cooled and water-cooled chillers.
- Diagnose malfunctions and repair chiller systems, including compressors, evaporators, condensers, and control panels.
- Test system performance using specialized tools and instruments (e.g., gauges, multimeters, refrigerant leak detectors).
- Monitor system operations, pressures, temperatures, and fluid levels.
- Maintain logs, service reports, and compliance documentation.
- Assist in the installation of new chiller systems or upgrades.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of refrigerants in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Coordinate with other technicians and building personnel during shutdowns or emergency repairs.
- Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and industry best practices.
- Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or HVAC diploma preferred.
- 3+ years of experience with commercial or industrial chiller systems.
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II or Universal) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends if needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work in confined spaces, heights, and varying weather conditions.
- Stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
