The Assistant Diesel Mechanic supports senior mechanics in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. This role is ideal for individuals beginning their career in diesel mechanics and looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional shop environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks
- Help with vehicle inspections and identify mechanical issues
- Clean and organize tools, parts, and work areas
- Maintain accurate records of services and repairs
- Follow all safety procedures and regulations
- Assist in ordering and stocking parts and supplies
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (vocational training preferred)
- Basic understanding of diesel engine components and functions
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions
- Good physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects
- Valid driver’s license (CDL is a plus)
Preferred Skills:
- Enrollment in or completion of a diesel technology program
- Some hands-on experience through internships or workshops
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
