Plumbing Inspector Job Description

Job Summary:
A Plumbing Inspector is responsible for inspecting plumbing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes and regulations. This role involves reviewing plans, issuing permits, performing on-site inspections, and advising contractors and property owners on necessary corrections and improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect new and existing plumbing installations, repairs, and alterations for compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
• Review blueprints, building plans, and specifications to ensure adherence to legal standards before issuing permits.
• Conduct on-site inspections during various stages of construction or renovation.
• Identify and document violations, issue correction notices, and ensure timely compliance.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, findings, permits, and reports.
• Collaborate with building officials, engineers, architects, contractors, and property owners.
• Stay current with updates in plumbing codes and standards.
• Educate stakeholders on code requirements and best practices.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required); post-secondary education in plumbing or construction technology (preferred).
• Completion of a certified plumbing apprenticeship program.
• Valid plumbing inspector certification (e.g., IPC, UPC, or state-specific licenses).
• Proven experience as a licensed plumber or plumbing inspector.
• Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, safety standards, and construction practices.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and report-writing abilities.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for site visits
