Job Title: Coating Inspector
Job Summary:
The Coating Inspector is responsible for monitoring and inspecting surface preparation and coating application processes to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards (such as NACE/AMPP, SSPC, ISO), and client requirements. The role involves conducting visual and instrument-based inspections, maintaining quality control documentation, and ensuring the protective coatings are applied correctly to prevent corrosion and maintain asset integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect surface preparation and coating application on steel, concrete, and other substrates.
- Verify environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity, dew point) before and during coating operations.
- Use inspection tools such as dry film thickness (DFT) gauges, surface profile gauges, and holiday detectors.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., NACE/AMPP, SSPC, ISO 12944).
- Prepare and maintain detailed inspection records, daily reports, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Witness and document tests such as adhesion testing, solvent rubs, and pull-off testing.
- Coordinate with contractors, quality control teams, and clients regarding coating issues and corrective actions.
- Attend pre-job meetings and participate in audits and quality reviews.
- Monitor storage, mixing, and application of coating materials to verify compliance with manufacturer’s specifications.
Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or technical degree (preferred).
- Certifications: NACE Level 1/2/3 or AMPP CIP Level 1/2/3 preferred; SSPC certifications may also be accepted.
- Experience: 3+ years of coating inspection experience in industrial environments.
- Skills:
- Proficient in using inspection instruments and interpreting technical specifications.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in field conditions.
- Familiarity with HSE procedures and safe work practices.
