Rigging Supervisor 

Overview:

The Rigging Supervisor leads the rigging department and is responsible for developing and overseeing the creation of animation rigs for characters, creatures, props, and other assets. They ensure that rigs are efficient, flexible, and suitable for the animation team’s needs, maintaining technical quality and consistency across the project.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and mentor the rigging team, providing guidance and feedback on technical and artistic rigging challenges.
• Design and implement advanced character and creature rigs that meet the artistic vision and technical requirements.
• Collaborate closely with modeling, animation, and pipeline departments to ensure assets are production-ready.
• Maintain consistency of rigging tools and practices across the project or studio.
• Review rigs for usability and deformation quality, ensuring they meet performance benchmarks.
• Work with Pipeline/TD teams to improve rigging tools and processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve rigging-related issues in collaboration with other departments.
• Ensure rigs are optimized for performance without compromising quality.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of character setup, kinematics, skinning, and deformation techniques.
• Proficiency in 3D software such as Maya, Houdini, or Blender.
• Solid understanding of anatomy, physical motion, and animation principles.
• Scripting experience (e.g., Python, MEL) for rigging automation and tool development.
• Proven leadership skills with experience managing rigging teams in a production environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks under tight deadlines.

Preferred Experience:

• 5+ years of professional experience in rigging for film, TV, or games.
• Experience working on high-end VFX or feature animation projects.
• Familiarity with pipeline integration and asset management systems.
