The Lathe Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and/or CNC lathes to produce precision metal parts and components according to technical drawings, blueprints, or specifications. The machinist ensures that all machined parts meet quality and safety standards while maintaining production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual or CNC lathes to perform turning, facing, threading, drilling, and boring operations.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using micro meters, calipers, gauges, and other precision tools.
- Adjust machine settings, tooling, and programming (for CNC) to optimize production.
- Maintain machines by cleaning, lubricating, and performing routine maintenance.
- Monitor the machining process to ensure quality standards and tight tolerances are met.
- Document work completed and report any deviations or issues to supervisors.
- Comply with all safety procedures and regulations in the workplace.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or apprenticeship is preferred.
- Proven experience as a lathe machinist (manual or CNC).
- Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and materials.
- Proficiency with measurement tools and inspection techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Physical stamina to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods.
