Position Summary:
The PWHT Technician is responsible for carrying out Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) processes on piping systems, pressure vessels, and structural components. This includes setting up and operating heat treatment equipment in accordance with specified codes, client specifications, and safety standards to relieve stress and improve the mechanical properties of welded materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up, calibrate, and operate PWHT equipment such as electrical resistance, induction, or gas-fired heating systems.
- Interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures, and heat treatment specifications.
- Monitor and control temperature cycles, including ramp-up, soak, and cooling periods, using thermocouples and temperature recorders.
- Ensure proper placement and connection of thermocouples, heating elements, and insulation.
- Maintain detailed records of heat treatment parameters, including time and temperature charts.
- Conduct inspections before, during, and after heat treatment to ensure conformance with project requirements.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear proper PPE during operations.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform basic maintenance on heat treatment equipment.
- Collaborate with welders, inspectors, and quality control personnel to coordinate heat treatment schedules.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in heat treatment or welding technology preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in PWHT or industrial heat treatment.
- Familiarity with ASME, API, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Ability to read isometric drawings and understand welding procedures.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems and thermocouple placement.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights as needed.
- Willingness to travel and work night shifts or weekends based on project requirements.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) is a plus.
- Familiarity with portable PWHT equipment such as Stork, Co preheat, or Heat master units.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
