Rigging Foreman Job Description

Position Overview:
The Rigging Foreman is responsible for overseeing all rigging operations on construction, industrial, or maritime sites. This role ensures the safe and efficient setup, movement, and dismantling of heavy equipment and materials using cranes, hoists, pulleys, and other rigging systems. The Rigging Foreman leads a team of riggers, coordinates tasks with site supervisors, and ensures compliance with all safety regulations and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily rigging operations, assigning tasks to rigging crews.
  • Inspect rigging gear, cranes, and lifting equipment to ensure they meet safety standards and are properly maintained.
  • Interpret load charts, lifting plans, blueprints, and other technical documents to plan lifts and moves.
  • Direct rigging crews in the safe and precise installation or relocation of large equipment and structures.
  • Communicate with crane operators, engineers, and site supervisors to align rigging operations with project timelines.
  • Enforce compliance with OSHA and other relevant safety standards and site regulations.
  • Train and mentor junior riggers and ensure all team members are following best practices.
  • Complete job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and lift plans before initiating critical lifts.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of rigging activities, equipment inspections, and incident reports.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in rigging or lifting operations, with at least 2–5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of rigging principles, equipment, and safe lifting procedures.
  • Certification in rigging and/or crane signaling (e.g., NCCCO, OSHA).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and lifting plans.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Physically fit and able to work at heights or in challenging environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with heavy construction, shipbuilding, oil and gas, or offshore projects.
  • Familiarity with computerized rigging planning software.
  • First aid/CPR certification.
