The rigger is responsible for the safe setup and operation of rigging systems used to lift, move, and position heavy materials and equipment. This includes selecting appropriate rigging gear, attaching loads securely, guiding crane operators, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect rigging gear and lifting equipment (chains, slings, shackles, hooks, etc.) for wear and damage.
- Set up and dismantle rigging equipment as required for lifting operations.
- Read and interpret load charts, blueprints, and lifting plans.
- Attach loads securely using slings, hooks, and other rigging tools.
- Signal crane or hoist operators to facilitate the lifting and moving of loads.
- Monitor and control the movement of heavy objects to prevent accidents or damage.
- Ensure all rigging work is performed safely and in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Coordinate with crane operators, supervisors, and other workers during lifts.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Record inspections and equipment usage as per company protocols.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a rigger in construction, marine, oil & gas, or industrial settings.
- Certification in rigging and lifting operations (e.g., NCCCO, OSHA, CISRS, or regional equivalent).
- Ability to read technical drawings and lifting plans.
- Strong understanding of load-bearing calculations and lifting techniques.
- Physical strength and stamina.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Conditions:
- Outdoor and indoor environments depending on project.
- Exposure to heights, loud noise, heavy machinery.
- May involve night shifts, weekends, or extended hours during critical operations.
