A Truck Driver is responsible for transporting goods from one location to another using heavy-duty vehicles, such as tractor-trailers or delivery trucks. They ensure timely delivery while adhering to safety and traffic regulations, maintaining vehicle condition, and providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and drive long-haul or short-haul trucks to transport goods and materials.
- Plan delivery routes and meet delivery schedules.
- Secure cargo properly and ensure loads comply with weight limits and safety standards.
- Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues; perform preventative maintenance when needed.
- Report defects, accidents, or violations to appropriate parties.
- Maintain accurate driving logs, delivery records, and other required documentation.
- Adhere to company and industry safety protocols, including Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
- Interact professionally with customers during pickups and deliveries.
Requirements:
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL); Class A or B, depending on vehicle type.
- Clean driving record with a strong understanding of road safety rules.
- Proven experience as a truck driver (preferred but not always required).
- Physical fitness and ability to load/unload cargo as needed.
- Familiarity with GPS devices and electronic logging systems.
- Ability to work independently with a strong sense of responsibility.
Work Conditions:
- Long hours on the road; overnight or cross-country trips may be required.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Time spent sitting for long periods while driving.
