The Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen or service area. This includes cleaning dishes, utensils, and equipment; organizing storage areas; and ensuring waste disposal procedures are followed. Stewards support chefs and other staff by maintaining an orderly work environment and complying with safety and sanitation regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans using manual and machine methods.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas, including floors, work surfaces, walls, and equipment.
- Dispose of waste in a hygienic and environmentally responsible manner.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of all cleaning materials and supplies.
- Organize and restock clean items to their proper place.
- Assist in receiving and organizing kitchen supplies or deliveries.
- Comply with food safety and sanitation standards (e.g., HACCP guidelines).
- Support chefs and other kitchen staff as needed during busy service times.
- Perform deep cleaning tasks as scheduled or requested by supervisors.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Prior experience in stewarding, housekeeping, or similar role is an advantage (but not always required).
- Basic understanding of hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Ability to operate dishwashing machines and cleaning tools.
- Physically fit and capable of standing for long hours and lifting moderate weight.
- Attention to detail and cleanliness.
- Team player with good communication skills.
- Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced kitchen or hospitality environment.
- Exposure to heat, cleaning chemicals, and wet or slippery surfaces.
