Job Summary:
A Steel Fixer is responsible for positioning and securing steel bars or mesh in concrete forms for construction projects such as buildings, bridges, roads, and other structures. The role is critical in reinforcing concrete to ensure it can withstand structural loads and stress.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and follow technical drawings and plans.
- Cut, bend, and shape steel bars and mesh using hand and power tools.
- Tie rebar together using wire, clips, or welding equipment.
- Set out the work area, following engineering plans.
- Install steel reinforcement and position it accurately prior to concrete pouring.
- Use rebar bending machines and hydraulic cutters safely.
- Ensure work is carried out safely, meeting health and safety standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, carpenters, and other tradespeople.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and specifications.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Steel Fixer or in a similar construction role.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and bar bending schedules (BBS).
- Skilled in using steel cutting and bending tools.
- Good physical fitness and manual dexterity.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations on construction sites.
- Team player with good communication skills.
