Cashier Job Description

Position Summary:
A cashier is responsible for handling customer transactions at the point of sale. They ensure accurate money handling, provide excellent customer service, and help maintain the efficiency and cleanliness of the checkout area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers and assist with their purchases.
  • Accurately scan, price, and bag items.
  • Handle cash, credit/debit card, and other forms of payment.
  • Issue receipts, refunds, and change as needed.
  • Balance the cash drawer at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Maintain a clean and organized checkout area.
  • Answer customer inquiries and resolve basic complaints.
  • Follow company policies and procedures regarding transactions and security.
  • Assist with stocking shelves and keeping the front area tidy when not busy.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer-focused attitude.
  • Prior cashier or retail experience is a plus, but not always required.
